The Way of the Voice

After a long wait and following the many requests coming from my clients and my collaborators, I finally gave birth to my book which tries to explain in simple words and within everyone’s reach, the philosophy behind my teaching method: Inborn Voice.

With this book, anyone can taste the enormous complexity that sustains the world of the voice, spoken and sung, and how the ability to harness one’s own voice is the only real secret to personal success and happiness in one’s life.

Learning to sing, to speak or to communicate in the right way, without doing any physical or “spiritual” harm, succeeding moreover in making emotions flow from one’s own depth in a natural and spontaneous way, is something extremely difficult and far from the classical or modern vocal teaching, that is, through vocalizations, warbles and the like next to a piano.

I am confident that you will like the book and help you to glimpse your Inbon Voice!

The flagship, the Way of the Voice, has been included in the bibliography of the course of Communication Techniques of the Catholic University of the Holy Heart, which makes me even more proud of all the efforts I make every day to carry out, as a pioneer, this vocal revolution.

If you want to read it, you can order it directly from Amazon, Barnes & Noble or even the iBook Store on your Apple device.

The Italian language dialects

The Italian language dialects

Today I happened to see a video of Enrico Brignano, one of my favorite Italian artist, which shows once again how comedians often give out pearls, in this case how the voice can communicate beyond words.

In this video Brignano reviews the whole of Italy, from North to South, indicating with his hand the passage from region to region, and using his voice to recreate the sounds of the many local dialects that characterize our country, all fascinating for the different sounds developed in ancient times to protect themselves from “foreigners” and “invaders”.
This video highlights the potential of the human voice, a rich and wonderful tool.

The elasticity of moving from such different sounds with this speed shows the incredible potential of Brignano’s voice, of his phonatory apparatus so versatile and fundamental for his career and his success.
Obviously any of us can achieve similar results.

Each sound makes us immediately understand the region to which we belong and the identity of the indigenous people, a topic that I explore all over the world with my Workshop “Identity and voice” now in its 4th Italian edition.

The Christmas tree that Travels

My work very often leads me to travel around the world.
I have practically visited almost every country, from the poles to the equator, far and wide.

For some time now I have been “collecting” something special, so that I always have with me a memory of the places I visited: the Christmas decorations!

Here are some of the most particular, a sign that Christmas is not always a Christian holiday or one that happen in the cold.

A peace of Japan in Boston

Today I went to visit Takashi Murakami’s exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Here are some of the photographs I collected for you while wandering around the halls of this huge museum!

As you can appreciate from the images, the museum is full of children who enjoy drawing, under the watchful eye of the guardians, equally colorful images on their notebooks. I have also visited with pleasure the section of the museum dedicated to ancient musical instruments 😀

Join the NYC Marathon!

Boston has a marathon as beautiful and famous as the one in New York, but the big apple offers something extra, especially for us Italians.

This year I went to New York by bus, to avoid queues and expensive parking.

This year all the newspapers are talking about the fact that, after 40 years, an American has finally won the most famous marathon in the United States.

I have always been fascinated by people who practice sports with perseverance and passion. Of course, to get to run a marathon you need something bigger. The NYC Marathon is a unique event for runners. When they share their experience with me, I see their eyes illuminate and the energy that shines through them makes me want to run too! Through their words I can imagine running through the streets of the world’s belly button and it’s a real magic.

An interesting fact, among all those presented is that the marathon is slowing down. Today more and more people face the marathon and although they are “super” men and women, most of them “ruin” the average. In 1980, the average of those who completed the competition was just over four hours, today we are over four and a half hours. That’s more than twice as many as the first ones. Almost all those who officially participate in the event arrive at the finish line, then there are those like me who participate only to see some glimpses of the city otherwise unreachable.

I still congratulate the winner: what you earn with hard work and determination has a true and eternal flavor!

A Vocal Coach with a 32-hour working day

This morning, standard time has finally come into effect here on the east coast of the United States.

Each week I am lucky enough to travel the world and enter the homes of my students who are scattered all over the world. But this means having an agenda that must take into account the various time zones and the different adjustments that occur behind the scenes. I will talk to you about the different holidays that each country observes in a next post!

I prefer customers from Hawaii. Partly because of the colors of the rooms and voices, and partly because they never change the time. They always use the Hawaiian time so with them I just have to be careful of the time of the country where I am, that is, in which of the six time zones in the United States or in which of the eleven time zones in Europe I am.

The Hawaiian Islands are in the time zone minus ten hours compared to Greenwich Mean Time, which is the zero time zone.

Then I have all the customers scattered around the U.S. ranging from the time zone of the West Coast, for example Los Angeles, minus eight to that of the East Coast, like Boston and New York, minus five.

Obviously there are two americas and I’m lucky enough to work with Argentines and Brazilians, other countries with very involving colors and rhythms, which are in the time zone minus three.

Then we move on to Europe, with England in time zone zero and the bulk of my Italian, French, Swiss and German customers in time zone plus one.

Then we move on to another hot country, Saudi Arabia, which stands at more than three, and Oman, which stands at more than four.

Russia is a complicated country, the Moscow area stands at more than three, while the rest of the country reaches even more than twelve. Luckily my customers are all mainly Muscovites.

My most demanding customers, those who are in “modern” China, essentially Hong Kong and Beijing, follow closely. Like the Hawaiian islands, they never change their legal/solar time and they stay in the time zone plus eight. I’ve also had customers in Japan, but generally they prefer to come here to the United States for Full Immersions.

Last, but not least, my favourite customers arrive, the New Zealanders who are in their time zone plus twelve and who are the first, or last, to change daylight saving time and solar time.

In practice, my typical workday takes place in 32 hours of work, scattered around the world, in three different languages!

The time changes for this year are also over. It starts again on March 11th when Canada will be the first to adopt daylight saving time and will end on April 1st with New Zealand.

Live and let go your voice

It is increasingly frequent to watch comedies or movies in which, through parody, the naked and raw reality is placed right under our noses.

If you look at the first seconds of the trailer for this movie, you will be clear what I mean.
Here in the United States, the wealthy population periodically goes to the “shrink”, or psychotherapist. Not that in Italy it’s too different.
The necessity of modern society is to name things. When a person suffers for some reason he does not find peace until someone labels his problem with a diagnosis.
At that point, the problem is no longer a problem, but has a name and becomes something to talk and brag about.

Stopping to speculate on the reasons for a suffering, the work of the “Shrink”, or getting to give it a grand name, the work of the “specialists” doctors, in no way solves the suffering.

My work very often leads me to work with people desperately looking for the reason for their suffering or a diagnosis that labels their problem.

None seems to want to solve the sickness, the problem.
If a bird has been poking into your ear, one of my voice workshops might brighten you up!

Foliage on Lake Winnipesaukee

The foliage period, when trees start to change colour and prepare for winter, attracts many tourists to the Boston area.

This weekend, those who have chosen to do Full Immersion with me are lucky enough to be able to take a ride around Lake Winnipesauke on a train that takes tourists to White Mountain, along a four-hour loop route, to see the explosion of color in the surrounding forests and the valley.

Today I have the pleasure to accompany them and since by now I am also known by the local people here in New Hampshire, I am lucky to be able to have the opportunity to visit the locomotive. Something that has the atmosphere of an ancient and powerful mistery. In America the railway lines are almost all powered by diesel engines, there are no electric poles, so the experience is even more enjoyable, thanks to the low frequency hum of the engine.

This year it’s too late, but you still have time to book for next year!

The ten songs to sing this Halloween season

We are at the beginning of the increasingly celebrated Halloween period, a holiday of ancient and dark origin that is celebrated on the night of October 31 and November 1.

When it comes to singing it is always important to have the right inspiration so I decided to share with you the atmosphere that surrounds me here in the United States. Then at the end of the article, if you really have no idea what to sing, I’ll tell you the ten best songs to sing on Halloween!

When I walk through the streets of the suburbs of Boston, I always find beautiful houses with gardens, windows, doors and balconies decorated with something reminiscent of the festivities. The funniest are huge black inflatable cats, taller than the house, or skeletons with cloaks waving in the air hanging from a tree. Once I even met a fake hanged man: he really made an impression on me! The atmosphere is completed by the scented candles that are lit every night inside the pumpkins carved in the shape of a monstrous head.
Even restaurants and fast food chains are showing their restyling for the event, for example at Starbucks they have created a drink for the occasion I love: spicy pumpkin latte!

When I pass by Salem, the city of the Witches, I meet people who seem to have come out of time, dressed in long tunics and high pointed hats, colorful and uneven stockings. Even the accessories are kept in the highest care for example I loved a hair clip in the shape of a skeleton hand!

“Trick or treat”

Are you ready for Halloween time?

I’m adding my list of songs for a karaoke evening on the theme of Halloween
